The DLG bulk terminal at the Port of Aarhus is Denmark’s largest. In this case study, terminal manager Bjarne Andersen talks about how everyday life has become easier due to custom made JST attachments for their loaders
Customised JST high tip bucket is self-cleaning
Bjarne Andersen is the Terminal Manager at the DLG Bulk Terminal in Aarhus. He emphasises the importance of the different attachments they work with being self-cleaning. The terminal stores 14 different products and there can be no spillage from one product to another. That’s why they have specially designed buckets that are easy to clean, and where everything is made so that the materials slide off the bucket and can’t get stuck in corners and nooks.

Among other things, DLG Bulk Terminal has had a 9 cubic metre high tip bucket made. It is partitioned in the middle with 4.5 cubic metres on each side. This provides both a more stable bucket and the ability to load a vehicle with 4.5 cubic metres instead of a large portion that will go all over the place. It also reduces waste when loading because it is easier to control. “It’s just become easy and the weak points we had before are gone – it really works,” says DLG’s Machine Operator, Claus Henriksen.
The high-tip bucket is also made with a side guard. It’s designed to ensure that it doesn’t damage the walls if you hit them with the bucket.
9 metre long grain pusher
DLG has also had a 9 metre long grain pusher made for their Volvo L150 Loader. The grain pusher is designed to be self-cleaning, so DLG avoids contamination between the different products.
“We’ve had grain pushers of a different make, and we’ve had them break in the centre and at other crossbars. But we’ve been using the grain pusher from JST for two years now, and it works!”

The grain pusher/long pusher was a custom production, so it is tailored to DLG’s wishes and needs. “We’ve had grain pushers of a different make, and we’ve had them break in the centre and at other crossbars. But we’ve been using the grain pusher from JST for two years now, and it works,” says the satisfied Machine Operator, Kim Vestergaard Andersen.
Giraffes for moving cassettes
DLG has also had customised attachments made, which they call “giraffes”. The giraffes are used to move cassettes, which are gates that DLG uses to close off halls to prevent grain and feed from spilling out.
DLG has had a custom-made small and large giraffe produced, which are great tools for the specific task at hand.
Attachments developed in collaboration with JST
All attachments have been developed in collaboration with Maskinfabrikken JST. DLG visited JST and JST provided plans that DLG reviewed and made corrections to.

Claus Henriksen is a machine operator at DLG and drives the high-tip bucket every day. He was also pleased to be involved in the process of manufacturing the attachments. “When we got new machines, we visited the JST steel workshop and helped design the attachments from scratch. It was excellent. We had reinforcements made in the places we need them and installed a partition in the high tip bucket, which makes loading much easier,” says Claus.
